Synopsis:
This is a play about the survivors of the 1988 massacres and the world on the outside in which they lived afterward. It tells thestory of the "Khavaran" cemeteries in Iranian cities. (Khavaran is the site of a mass grave in Tehran where victims of the 1988 massacres were buried.) This is a tale of how the survivors faced their future.
Hossein Afsahi:
Playwright, director and actor, student of theatre, started his theatre career in 1971 with various theatre companies in Tehran. After two years, he joined the 'Bureau of Theatre Planning' and spent the next six years (until 1979) as an actor and assistant director with various theatre groups of the Bureau. From 1980 to 1984, he was in charge of developing and directing programs for Iranian Television.
In 1986 he went on a self-imposed exile in Hamburg, Germany where he continued his art, producing and directing numerous Persian and German plays in Germany, Europe and Canada. He now divides his time between Germany and Toronto.
He feels privileged to be participating in ceremonies commemorating the twentieth anniversary of the 1988 massacres of Iranian political prisoners. He will participate in events in following cities: Paris, London, Hamburg, Berlin, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and Washington.
