Felicitas Treue, psychologist and psychotherapist
Co-founder of the Collective against Torture and Impunity (Colectivo Contra la Tortura y la Impunidad) in Mexico, an independent human rights organization dedicated to the struggle against torture and support for torture survivors, their families and communities.
Experience in the field of rehabilitation of torture survivors, training for health and legal professionals and as a psychological expert at the Interamerican Court for Human Rights.
Torture has always been used as an instrument of state repression with the intention of paralyzing movements that question the existing power structures. This form of organized violence has devastating effects on the individual and the community.
In this context I want to share some experiences from political prisoners in Mexico that show the importance and possibilities of individual and collective resistance in order to cope with the traumatic experiences, rebuild identity and contribute to the struggle against impunity.
